Smells like cassis-dredged rosemary right now, with tangy cherry, raspberry and red currant fruit, followed by a long, tobacco- and savory-herb-filled finish. Very racy. Tasted non-blind. Score range: 92-95

The second wine, which normally represents about one-third of the tiny production from Lafleur-s vineyard on the high plateau of Pomerol just across the road from Petrus and Vieux Chateau Certan, is a blend of 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Franc. Pure raspberries and other red fruits jump from the glass of this medium-bodied, elegant, yet weighty wine, which should be reasonably drinkable early on and last up to 15 more years. Basile Guinaudeau, the son of Jacques, thinks this is the finest Les Pensees de Lafleur they have made since the 2000.

A lovely round and juicy wine, with blackberry and milk chocolate and velvety tannins. Full and very attractive. Texture is everything here. The second wine of Lafleur. 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Franc.
Since 2000 Chateau Lafleur has rivaled Petrus for top Pomerol. Their rising reputation is closely linked to significant praise from Robert Parker. They’ve developed special practices to get the best out of their unique soil, which gives their wine great character.
